A Month's Worth of Family Fun Coming to RFK Stadium Festival Grounds

From our friends at Events DC...

Events DC is Bringing Four Very Different Community Based Events to the Stadium-Armory Campus

Events DC opens the RFK Stadium Festival Grounds to four upcoming events that are sure to be fun for the whole family. On Saturday, May 16th, the DC Electric Vehicle Grand Prix celebrates our local high school students who are putting the STEM lessons learned in the classroom to practical use as they construct and race electric vehicles. On Sunday, May 17th, the Capitol Hill Classic will run around RFK Stadium as participants raise significant dollars and awareness for the Capitol Hill Cluster School. The Capital Fair at RFK comes to town for 10 days from May 22nd - May 31st with all your favorite fair foods, state fair rides and family fun that will appeal to families of all ages. To cap off the 4-week span of activity, the DC Department of Public Works is hosting a free, citywide “Truck Touch” on Saturday, June 6th where a host of DC government agencies will present and demonstrate nearly 30 vehicles for the public to interact with.

“We are always searching for varied events to bring to our campus that our local community can enjoy,” says Erik A. Moses, senior vice president and managing director of Events DC’s Sports and Entertainment Division. “The DC Electric Vehicle Grand Prix, Capitol Hill Classic, Capital Fair at RFK, and Truck Touch are four very different attractions that will surely engage not only our neighborhood families but also bring in people from out of town to enjoy the best DC has to offer.”

2015 DC Electric Vehicle Grand Prix - Saturday, May 16, 2015:
The District Department of the Environment (DDOE), Global Education Energy and Environment (GEEE) and Events DC invite you to cheer on local high school students as they compete against one another in the 2015 DC Electric Vehicle Grand Prix. This hands-on educational program teaches students to apply engineering, science, mathematical principles and strategy as they construct and race their battery-powered electric cars. The race course will be around Lots 6 and 7 on the RFK Stadium Festival Grounds with free parking through the entrance off of Oklahoma Avenue, NE. 36th Capitol Hill Classic - Sunday, May 17, 2015:
The NBC Capitol Hill Classic road races are a major annual fundraiser for the Capitol Hill Cluster School, a DC public school with over 1,000 students. This race includes a 10K race, a 3K race, and a kid’s fun run and is the only race run exclusively on the roads of Capitol Hill. Approximately 3,500 people are expected to participate in this awesome fundraiser. To register, donate, or get more information, please visit http://www.capitolhillclassic.com/.

Capital Fair at RFK - May 22-31, 2015:

Truck Touch - June 6, 2015:
The public is invited to attend the eighth annual “Truck Touch” on Saturday, June 6, 2015, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at RFK Stadium Festival Grounds, parking lot 7, hosted by the DC Department of Public Works. Numerous DC government agencies will present and demonstrate nearly 30 vehicles used to clean and repair streets, change traffic lights, collect refuse, clear snow, provide emergency services, administer mobile health care, and more. Last year, more than 3,000 residents came out to climb on packer, sweeper and boom trucks; sit atop MPD’s Mounted Unit’s police horse and maneuver the levers of a police chopper; ride Segways, and test drive electric sedan vehicles. This is a free event and more information can be found by visiting http://dpw.dc.gov/page/truck-touch-2015.
