Zengo Debuts Its New “Test Kitchen: Indonesia to Argentina” Series

Acclaimed Chef Richard Sandoval’s colorful Latin-Asian inspired restaurant, Zengo, located at 781 7th Street, NW, 20001, is pleased to introduce its next "Test Kitchen" series this April. Every few months Sandoval and his culinary team at Zengo research and develop new recipes featuring the cuisine and spirits of one Latin and one Asian country. The result is a specialty menu featuring small plates and cocktails that feature the bold flavors and techniques from each region. Each menu item is marked the signature "TK" symbol on the menu at Zengo, noting that they are exclusive and available for a limited time only. Available from April 1th to June 30th, Chef de Cuisine Jason Streiff is preparing Test Kitchen: Indonesia to Argentina with dishes inspired by the rich cultures of Indonesia and Argentina. The TK series will be offered exclusively during dinner service, beginning at 5 PM.

The Test Kitchen: Indonesia to Argentina will feature four plates with a new interpretation such as Stuffed Crispy Tofu with chorizo, shrimp, carrot, bean sprout and a sweet soy dipping sauce; Indonesian Style Chile Crab Cakes with lump blue crab, cucumber salad, lemon, tomato and chile crab sauce; Beef Tongue Escabeche with pickled bell pepper, garlic, olive oil, hard boiled egg and cilantro, as well as the Argentinian Parrillada Mixed Grill (serves two), hanger steak, sweet chorizo, blood sausage, grilled chicken breast and black truffle chimichurri. For the perfect ending, guests can enjoy a Lychee Mousse with mango, vanilla cake and raspberry sauce. The featured Indonesian-Argentinian menu items will range in price from $9 to $49.


To complement these bold dishes, Rob Day, Richard Sandoval Restaurant’s National Beverage Director, is crafting new cocktails, priced at $13 each, with the fruits, spices and spirits of Indonesia and Argentina. Two standout cocktails are the Smoked Ginger - Jengibre Ahumado with rye whiskey, ginger & honey syrup, apricot brandy, lemon juice and ginger beer, and the Tucuman with gin, apricot brandy, sweet vermouth and blood orange bitters.

Zengo is located at 781 7th Street, NW, 20001 and is situated directly next to the Gallery Place/Chinatown H Street metro entrance accessible on the red, yellow and green lines. Lunch is available Monday through Friday from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, and dinner is served Sunday through Thursday from 5 PM to 10 PM and Friday and Saturday from 5 PM to 12 Midnight. A late night menu is available on Friday and Saturday from 12 Midnight until 1 AM. The Lounge is open from Sunday through Friday from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, and dinner Sunday through Thursday from 5 PM to 11 PM; Friday and Saturday from 5 PM to 3 AM.
