Army Edges American, 68-66

In yet another Patriot League game that went down to the wire, it was the Army Black Knights that came out on top, edging American, 68-66. Military Academy point guard Dylan Cox scored the game-winning layup with four seconds left while AU's 3-point attempt as time expired was off the mark in game televised live on the CBS Sports Network.

The Patriot League is proving to be one of the toughest conferences in the country as yet another AU conference game was decided by less four points with a victor decided in the final seconds.

Pee Wee Gardner led all players with 7 assists

Neither team led by more than nine points and the lead changed hands nine times on Monday night. Army took a four-point lead into the break, but the Eagles fought back and built a five-point lead with 1:45 left. The Black Knights owned the final salvo however, ending the game on a 7-0 run.

Jesse Reed led all players with 8 rebounds

"Army is a team that is very disciplined offensively and comes at you for 40 minutes," said head coach Mike Brennan. "They put full court pressure us and they made the plays to win it down the stretch."

Kevin Panzer (#13) scored 5 points

It was the first time this season in which American held a lead with five minutes left to play and did not come away with the win. AU entered the game 11-0 when leading with five minutes to go.

The game was a true Patriot League slugfest as the teams exchanged baskets through the first 18 minutes with neither team building more than a four-point advantage.

At 25-25, Army went on a 10-1 run to take its biggest lead of the game and looked to take over momentum but senior John Schoof came through with a 3-pointer in the final seconds to keep AU in it.

American started the second half on a 17-5 run to build a six-point lead and established its biggest advantage of the game with 6:30 to play after two free throws by Kevin Panzer made it 57-49.

Tanner Plomb (#32) led all scorers with 26 points

The Eagles were up by seven after a Charlie Jones layup at 4:06, but a quick 5-0 run by Army brought the Black Knights to within striking distance. The stage was set for Cox after a 3-pointer by Tanner Plomb tied the game at 66-all with 1:14 to go.

AU held Kyle Wilson to 16 points

Plomb finished with a game-high 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting, including a 6-of-9 clip from downtown. He also added a team-high seven rebounds. Preseason Patriot League Player of the Year Kyle Wilson chipped in 16 points, three triples and three assists.

Four Eagles scored in double figures, led by Schoof's team-high 17.

American shot 54.5% from the field and owned a 12-0 advantage in fast-break points, but Army's 8-2 mark in second-chance points on 10 offensive rebounds helped make the difference.

Army assisted on 18-of-26 made field goals, while American helped on 19-of-24. The Blacks had 12 more field goals attempted than the Eagles.

Junior guard Jesse Reed grabbed a game-high eight rebounds while adding 10 points and three assists while classmate Marko Vasic tallied double-digit points for the second-straight game.

Senior Pee Wee Gardner had and all-around game with nine points, seven assists, five rebounds, a 3-pointer, block and two steals.
