This Guy's in Charge
When you cover as many events as I do, it's difficult to get
excited about most (if not all) of them: It becomes
work, I suppose. Not so with
Metro Cooking DC, the two-day cooking nirvana that celebrates its ninth anniversary this year. Housed inside the magnificent
Walter E. Washington Convention Center, it gives foodies their much-deserved
day weekend in the sun. Time to soak it in.
Guy Fieri (the ultimate showman) headlined day one, teaming up with
WJLA's news anchor extraordinaire
Leon Harris in a cooking demo, so dazzling... that
Emeril Lagasse himself would blush with envy. Seriously, why doesn't Guy run for public office? Perhaps the best way to America's heart is through its
stomach? Fieri stuck around for a special book signing and VIP meet & greet, before retaking the stage at the Celebrity Theater for
another amazing demo.

In addition to Fieri, there was no shortage of local culinary standouts including recent James Beard winner
Vikram Sunderam (
Rasika)
Ripple's
Marjorie Meek-Bradley and
Mark Bucher of
Medium Rare. Today's lineup is even more impressive with cooking icons
Bobby Flay and
Todd English scheduled to appear. Doors open at 10:00 AM and close at 5:00 PM. Purchase tickets online (
click here) or onsite at the Convention Center. Oh, and did I mention the
RAMW Grand Tasting Pavilion from 12:30 - 3:30 PM? Shame on me: It's just
50 of the best local restaurants offering up some of their tastiest bites to the
luckiest group of people in the nation's capital (at least on Sunday) including yours truly! Check back tomorrow to read about every delicious morsel.
