Shhh... Secret Wine List and Personal Wine Tastings at Slate
Since its opening, Slate Wine + Bar Bistro has become a Glover Park fixture for great food, wine and events. One thing most don’t know…. aside from the current food and wine selections, there are a few ‘secrets’ that are worth revealing.
Wine. Of course, wine. Slate is a wine bar and bistro. But along with the wine flights, extensive wine by the glass listings and what most may not know is there is a ‘secret’ Private Wine list - all one has to do is ask for it. Owner Elizabeth Banker and Danny Lledo, wine collectors themselves, have selected premium wines from their own personal cellar to present to guests. Many of these wines are limited editions are available at a very limited mark-up. This is a perfect opportunity to try a wonderful bottle of premium wine that may not be available at a local spirits retailer or at all other than at Slate.
Another hidden treasure are the wine tastings - monthly events that spotlight a varietal, vintage or winemaker. Not the average wine tasting—these are personal. The sommelier conducts these tastings for guests privately at their table, answering specific questions, pairing these wines with Slate’s menu, and fulfilling subjective taste profiles.
Aside from the hidden, there is the public. Each and every Wednesday, Slate offers 2 for 1 wine night. A gratis second bottle of wine with the purchase of one bottle. On weekends, brunch includes ‘make your own Mimosas’ and Happy Hour runs daily from 3-7 pm with late night hours from 10-midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Slate’s contemporary menu also features many popular items from the Mediterranean, as well as a selection of Paellas from Danny Lledo’s homeland of Valencia Spain (vegetarian option included.)
