John Wick Movie Review

Keanu Reeves stars in John Wick

Murder He Wrote

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: An ex-hitman comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him. With New York City as his bullet-riddled playground, JOHN WICK (Keanu Reeves) is a fresh and stylized take on the "assassin genre."

John Wick marks the directorial debut for not one, but two stuntmen. Hardly encouraging; but thankfully David Leitch and Chad Stahelski play their one-note really well. That note is violence; and there's enough of it, to quench even the most avid fan's appetite for blood. Reeves is sensational as "the man you send to kill the boogeyman," offing bad guys with dazzling precision (head shots, head shots!) Unfortunately, his acting is almost non-existent, leaving the film's best line ('Oh!') to Michael Nyqvist, who delights as Wick's ex-employer/foil. Gorgeous violence, a few laughs and little else. Still, count me in.

Grade: B-
