Highlighted by a trip to the Bahamas, a game at Madison Square Garden in New York City, 16 games at Verizon Center, including one against perennial national power Kansas and nine against BIG EAST Conference opponents, the Georgetown University men’s basketball schedule for the 2014-15 season was released on Tuesday afternoon.
The Hoyas will play in the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas during Thanksgiving and have games against perennial national powers Indiana and Kansas on the schedule, as well as home-and-home dates with each BIG EAST Conference opponent for the coming season.
Prior to the start of BIG EAST Conference play, the Hoyas will play 11 games against non-league opponents. The 2014-15 regular season starts with three-straight games at home. The opener at Verizon Center is slated for Saturday, Nov. 15 at noon against St. Francis (N.Y.). The Hoyas will also play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday, Nov. 18 (7 p.m.) and then close out the home stand with a game against Robert Morris on Saturday, Nov. 22 (noon).
The team then travels to play in the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas. Georgetown plays a first round game against Florida on Wednesday, Nov. 26 (9:30 p.m., AXS TV). The winner of that game advances to play either Wisconsin or UAB on Thursday, Nov. 27 at 3:30 p.m. The losing teams advance to play on Thursday, Nov. 27 at 9:30 p.m. Other teams in the field in the Bahamas include North Carolina, UCLA, Oklahoma and Butler.
After the Thanksgiving tournament in the Bahamas, the Hoyas return home for four-straight games at Verizon Center during the month of December. The month will start with a game against Towson on Sunday, Dec. 7 as part of the BB&T Classic to benefit Children’s Charities. The highlight of the team’s non-conference home slate is a game against Kansas on Wednesday, Dec. 10. Tip-off at Verizon Center is slated for 7 p.m. The Hoyas will also host games against Radford on Saturday, Dec. 13 (noon) and play Charlotte on Saturday, Dec. 20 (noon).
The non-league portion of the schedule closes when the team plays Indiana University on Saturday, Dec. 27 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Hoyas and the Hoosiers will tip off at The World’s Most Famous Arena at noon and the game will air on ESPN2.
The Hoyas will open up BIG EAST play on the road on New Year’s Eve, playing at Xavier on Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 10 p.m., the final game of a conference marathon on Fox Sports 1.
The Blue & Gray return home for a pair of games, playing their BIG EAST home opener on Saturday, Jan. 3 (4:30 p.m.) against Creighton at Verizon Center. The team will also host Marquette on Tuesday, Jan. 6 (7 p.m.).
After a road game at DePaul on Tuesday, Jan. 13 (9 p.m.), Georgetown plays two games at Verizon Center, hosting Butler on Saturday, Jan. 17 (5 p.m.) and Villanova on Monday, Jan. 19 (9 p.m.).
The Hoyas play two of their final three games in the first month of the year away from home, with road games at Marquette on Saturday, Jan. 24 (2:30 p.m.) and at Creighton on Saturday, Jan. 31 (time to be announced) sandwiched around a game in Washington, D.C. against Xavier on Tuesday, Jan. 27 (7 p.m.).
The second month of the year starts with a game on Wednesday, Feb. 4 against Providence (9 p.m.), followed by games at Villanova on Saturday, Feb. 7 and at Seton Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 10 (7 p.m.).
Georgetown plays at Verizon Center on Tuesday, Feb. 17 against St. John’s (7 p.m.) and then hosts DePaul on Saturday, Feb. 21 (8 p.m.). The team plays two of its final three games away from home, at St. John’s on Saturday, Feb. 28 (noon) and at Butler on Tuesday, March 3 (7 p.m.). The team’s final regular season game will be played at Verizon Center on Saturday, March 7 at noon against Seton Hall.
