Chef Bryan Voltaggio's Third Family Meal Will Open in Richmond, Virginia
Acclaimed Chef Bryan Voltaggio’s modern American diner will open its third location at The Shops at Willow Lawn in early 2015
Chef Bryan Voltaggio and business partner Hilda Staples are proud to announce their third Family Meal restaurant. Located at The Shops at Willow Lawn, Family Meal is scheduled to open in early 2015. The Richmond location of the restaurant will follow the duo’s second Family Meal, scheduled to open in late 2014 in Ashburn, VA.
Open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Family Meal will offer modern twists on time-honored American classics. By putting a Southern twist on some recipes, a sophisticated, global touch on others, and consistently rotating seasonal, Mid-Atlantic ingredients, Voltaggio has crafted a menu to suit a variety of palates. Everyone in the family, from foodie parents to “happy campers,” (ages 10 and under), can enjoy the updated interpretations of diner food. Crowd favorites of the first Family Meal located in Frederick, MD include Hoecakes with pimento cheese, maple bacon jam, and pickle relish; Fried Chicken served with buttermilk biscuits, pickles, and hot sauce; Soft-shell Crab Sandwich with smoked crab, John Cope’s corn, tomato, and bacon; and more.
Burger lovers may gravitate toward the patty melt with cheddar, bacon, and caramelized onion, while deli fans will beeline for the House Cured Pastrami with pickles, sauerkraut, and gruyere on marbled rye.
"My family frequently visits Family Meal in Frederick, and I wanted to bring that same place to the Richmond community,” says Voltaggio. “The full-service diner concept lends itself to local families, working professionals, visitors alike, and we’re looking forward to offering homemade, high-quality, food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at The Shops at Willow Lawn.”
Staples became acquainted with the City of Richmond through her husband, who was born and raised in the city. “Although a big city, Richmond still has that small town feel that we love about Frederick, our hometown,” says Staples. “Having visited for most holiday family gatherings, I knew Richmond would be a great location for our more casual restaurant concept.”
Family Meal uses the same innovative techniques and high-quality products as Voltaggio’s flagship restaurant, VOLT, but in more approachable ways. The name “Family Meal” combines the two most important elements of American lifestyle: families being the most important, and a great meal the second. Whether breakfast, lunch, or dinner, a great meal shared with friends and family is the core value of what the concept suggests.
“Federal Realty is excited to welcome Family Meal to Willow Lawn. Family Meal’s twist on chef-inspired classic southern cuisine adds a new and unique flavor to the dining experience and heightens the selection of restaurants offering indoor and al fresco dining.” Says Robin McBride Zeigler, Vice President and Mid-Atlantic Chief Operating Officer for Federal Realty. “Willow Lawn is now a place to be with friends and family, have an after-work beverage with co-workers, or host a business lunch.”
Family Meal at The Shops at Willow Lawn will be Voltaggio’s and Staples’ eighth restaurant, following VOLT, Family Meal in Frederick, MD and Ashburn, VA, RANGE, AGGIO in Washington DC and Baltimore, MD, and Lunchbox. For more information about restaurants, please visit the www.bryanvtolaggio.com.
