Washington, D.C. Among Most Facial Hair Friendly Cities

From our friends at Wahl Grooming...

Mobile Barbershop Buzzes Through Town Looking for Best Facial Hair Specimen to Be Wahl Man of D.C.

Men’s grooming leader Wahl is hitting the road in search of facial hair excellence, and it knows just where to find it – Washington, D.C. Wahl will be parking its 30-foot mobile barbershop from June 21-22, 2014 at the Safeway Barbecue Battle as part of its Face the Day Tour. Wahl’s team will be offering free trims, grooming advice and looking for guys with the best scruff - as in mustache, beard or goatee - to represent the city as Wahl Man of DC; this lucky guy will then go on to compete for the top title of Wahl Man of the Year.

“Washington, D.C. is one of the hairy havens included on the tour’s 11 city schedule, based on its vast acceptance of facial hair,” explained Steven Yde, director of marketing for Wahl. “The mission of our tour is to support and pursue great facial hair, so naturally, we wanted to visit the cities where we’d find the best contenders for our Wahl Man of the Year contest.”

Search for Best Facial Hair Specimen Begins:
Dubbed the ultimate ‘mane’ event, the Wahl Man of the Year contest gives facial hair enthusiasts the chance to go mano a mano in a facial hair face-off. A guy from each tour stop, and one guy from online entries, will be crowned champion of their city and eventually compete for the top spot of Wahl Man of the Year. The 12 finalists will each win $500 and a Lithium Ion + Stainless Steel Trimmer. Online voting will help determine who wins the Grand Prize, which includes the coveted title of Wahl Man of the Year, an additional $1,000 and being featured in a national advertisement.

To better determine where to find guys with the gift for grooming, Wahl partnered with market research leader Opinion Research Corporation. The study included in-depth analysis of the online universe over the past two years for beard and mustache positivity. Conversations and searches surrounding facial hair were measured, and the top 20 cities were determined based on overall interest and positive sentiment.

Washington, D.C. ranks 19th on the list, and will be the second stop on the Face the Day Tour. More than just a quest for facial hair excellence, the tour also supports a good cause. For every facial hair trim performed, Wahl will donate $1 to ZERO - The End of Prostate Cancer, a nonprofit that is leading the fight to end prostate cancer, the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men.

The Wahl Man of the Year Contest runs through Oct. 12, 2014, and entries can be submitted at the Face the Day Tour stops or online through the Wahl Grooming Facebook page. More information, including tour stops, grooming advice and official contest rules, can be found at WahlGrooming.com.
