U.S. Navy Memorial Announces 2014 Concerts on the Avenue

From our friends at the U.S. Navy Memorial...

Summer Concert Series to Feature U.S. Navy Band’s Commodores, Concert Band and Country Current

Beginning this month, U.S. Navy Memorial will bring back Concerts on the Avenue, the popular summer concert series held on the Memorial’s outdoor plaza at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW. An array of the U.S. Navy Band’s musical groups is set to perform every Tuesday at 7:30 pm from June 3 to August 26.

The complimentary concert series is open to the public and features a wide range of genres for a variety of musical tastes. Each week, guests can enjoy a selection of patriotic, country, rock or Broadway show tunes amidst the memorial’s stunning Granite Sea map, waterfall fountains and Lone Sailor Statue.

On June 3, the series will kick off with the Navy Band’s country-blues ensemble, Country Current. Formed in 1973 by legendary banjoist Bill Emerson, Country Current is the Navy’s premiere country-bluegrass ensemble. Performances by Navy Band’s premier jazz ensemble, as well as select performances from the U.S. Coast Guard Band and Navy drill team demonstration, will also take place at the plaza this summer.

About the United States Navy Memorial:
Conveniently located on Pennsylvania Avenue - halfway between the White House and the Capitol, the United States Navy Memorial provides a living tribute to Navy people and a place for them to gather and celebrate their service. The outdoor plaza features a “Granite Sea” map of the world, towering masts with signal flags, fountain pools and waterfalls and The Lone Sailor© statue. Adjacent to the plaza is the Naval Heritage Center, where visitors can find educational displays about the contributions of the men and women of the Sea Services (Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine). Also housed in the Naval Heritage Center is the Navy Log - the online place for Navy people to stay connected with each other, celebrate their service and preserve the memories of their service. There, Sea Service veterans can build a record of their service online. Call (202) 737-2300 or visit www.navymemorial.org for more information.
