Get Your Quinoa On!
Protein Bar opens its fourth DMV location tomorrow at 11:00 AM; but VIPs (very interested people) like myself were allowed a sneak peak/taste last night, and I'm here to tell you... Protein Bar #4 is gonna be B-U-S-Y.
Why so busy? Have you been to 17th & K Streets, NW? The Farragut Square corridor is hands down, home to the most foot traffic in DC (per square inch, or however smarter people than me measure stuff.) Couple tons of people with the best tasting, high-fiber, high-protein menu in town, and success is a no-brainer. Still not convinced? Perhaps a giveaway could sway you in the right direction? Tomorrow (or late tonight, if you're one of those plan-ahead type people) the first 100 people in line at 11:00 AM get a FREE $100 gift certificate for Protein Bar.
Our media preview provided a glimpse of what's in store at tomorrow's Grand Opening (and I'm assuming, years to follow.) While a table of local bloggers & foodies dove into a wide assortment of samples, yours truly kept it simple with a small cup of Chicken Chili (8 oz. = only 180 calories, yet a whopping 15 grams of protein for only $3.99) and a Black and White Brownie for dessert (don't ask me how many calories... It's dessert: Live a little!)
Chicken Chili |
Their Chicken Chili is both hearty and tasty with thick chunks of tender chicken. The chili itself is loaded with beans, spices and veggies; and I imagine will be a big seller, once the temperature cools down a bit. A bowl (16 oz.) sets you back just $5.99. You can also customize any chili order, by adding avocado, blue cheese, cheddar, Greek yogurt or parmesan. Vegetarian Chili is available too (for the same price.)
Black and White Brownie |
I'm a big fan of brownies, and the Protein Bakery's Black and White version is a fine option, but don't expect a lot of "sweet talk." What you do get is a tasty bittersweet chocolate flavor with good texture and plenty of gooeyness. The menu doesn't stop there, with a wide variety of Bar-Ritos, quinoa bowls and salads.
