Montgomery College Communication and Performing Arts Department at Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus presents A Readers’ Theatre Production Notes on the Cold War in Kansas by Robert Day

The Communications and Performing Arts Department of Montgomery College – Takoma/Silver Spring, is proud to present a Readers’ Theatre Production, Notes on the Cold War in Kansas by Robert Day, adapted and directed by Perry T. Schwartz. Part of the Communication and Performing Arts Showcase Series, Readers’ Theatre will be performed over three weekends, February 28 – March 16, at the Cultural Arts Center. There will be a post-show discussion with Mr. Day, the director and the cast on Sunday, March 2.

Readers’ Theatre is a hybrid form of theatre in which actors read narration from a given short story and act out the character dialogue, in a play reading setting. Each actor will portray different characters in various stories.

Notes on the Cold War in Kansas includes stories that capture American yearnings, disappointments and triumphs through the lens of life in Kansas. The stories are filled with Day’s trademarks: lively human portraits and humorous, plain- spoken writing.

Participating actors are David Rothman, Professor in Communication and Performing Arts Department at Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus, MCC student actors—Mark McIntosh and Kevin McGuinness; and guest artists—Maura Claire Harford, Anna Jackson and Jonathan Douglass.

Robert Day is a professor emeritus of English at Washington College, published author and founder of Cottonwood, the nationally circulated literary review. Day’s novel, The Last Cattle Drive, is in its 30th anniversary printing. In 2012 he published a collection of short stories, Where I Am Now, and his latest novel, Let Us Imagine Lost Love, is available at the online magazine, Numero Cinq. A previous Readers’ Theatre production featured stories from his collection Speaking French in Kansas, as well as a theatre production, Fishing, both produced and directed by Perry T. Schwartz.
