GW Men's Hoops Stays Perfect at Home With Rout of Rhode Island
Colonials Carry 8-0 Home Mark into Tuesday Showdown with VCU
GW men's basketball led 37-13 at halftime and by 32 early in the second half en route to a 69-56 victory over Rhode Island at the Charles E. Smith Center on Saturday afternoon.
The win propels GW to 13-3 overall, 1-1 in Atlantic 10 play, and a perfect 8-0 at the Smith Center ahead of Tuesday's home showdown against preseason league favorite VCU. The Colonials will carry a nine-game home win streak into the Rams' first-ever visit to Smith Center as league rivals.

Sophomore Kevin Larsen matched his career-high with 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting and added seven rebounds to pace the Colonials to their fourth straight win over URI's Rams on Saturday. Senior frontcourt teammate Isaiah Armwood recorded his second straight double-double and fourth of the season with 10 points and 10 boards along with three blocks. Sophomore backcourt teammates Kethan Savage and Patricio Garino rounded out GW's double-digit scorers with 14 points apiece.

GW scored the first 12 points of the game, including six from Larsen, and built leads of 19-2 and 35-9 in a dominant first-half performance. Larsen and Garino both had 10 points on combined 9-of-11 shooting, and Larsen and Armwood totaled 11 rebounds by halftime as the Colonials surged to a 24-point lead behind 48.5 percent shooting and plus-9 rebound margin.
GW limited Rhode Island (9-8, 0-2 A-10) to six field goals and 24 percent shooting in the opening stanza as the Rams posted the lowest first-half point total by a Colonials' opponent since Saint Louis (seven points) in a 49-20 GW win at Smith Center on Jan. 10, 2008.

The Colonials opened the second half with an 8-0 run to extend the lead to 45-13 with 17:35 left and the Rams got no closer than 18 until the final minute of play.
Hassan Martin led Rhode Island with a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double and 8-of-9 shooting. T.J. Buchanan hit all four of his shots and finished with 13 points off the bench. The rest of the Rams combined to shoot 11-of-41 as the team finished at 42.6 percent (23-54).

The Colonials committed a season-low seven turnovers and shot 48.3 percent (29-60) to improve to 9-0 this season when shooting better than 45 percent.
