Head Lacrosse Coach Emma Wallace has announced the 2014 American University lacrosse schedule, which features eight regular season home games as the Eagles look to advance to the Patriot League Tournament for the fourth straight year.
"I am excited about our 2014 schedule and look forward to starting the season on February 8,” said Coach Wallace. “This year we face a challenging non-conference schedule featuring match-ups against UMBC, Virginia and Johns Hopkins. Our competitive non-conference schedule will prepare us well for Patriot League play as our conference has only grown in strength with the addition of Loyola (Md.) and Boston U. It is extremely exciting to be in a league that has an automatic qualifying bid and the strong possibility of an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.”
American will open the 2014 season at High Point on Saturday, February 8 before returning to Jacobs Field for its home opener on Sunday, February 16 at 1 p.m. against Campbell. The Eagles head to UMBC on Saturday, February 22 before returning home on Wednesday, February 26 to take on Richmond at 3 p.m.
After back-to-back road contests at Johns Hopkins and Mount St. Mary’s on March 1 and 5, the Eagles open its Patriot League slate against one of the conference’s newest members, Boston U., on Saturday, March 8 at 12 p.m. American heads to Holy Cross (March 15) before welcoming defending Patriot League Champion Navy to Jacobs Field on Wednesday, March 19 at 3 p.m.
The Eagles host Old Dominion on Saturday, March 22 at 1 p.m. and George Mason on Wednesday, March 26 at 4 p.m. before returning to Patriot League action at Bucknell on Saturday, March 29. American will then take on 2013 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight competitor Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. on Tuesday, April 1.
The Eagles close out its Patriot League schedule at home against Lafayette on Saturday, April 5 at 1 p.m. and Colgate on Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m. American will also face Loyola (Md.) (April 9) and Lehigh (April 13) on the road.
The 2014 Patriot League Tournament will open with the Quarterfinals on Tuesday, April 22 with the Semifinals and Championship taking place on Friday, April 25 and Sunday, April 27 at the site of the highest seed. The winner of the championships will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
This year's home and Patriot League games will be broadcast for free on the Patriot League Network.
American will be led by 2013 All-Patriot League First Team selection Emily Maher and Academic All-Patriot League honoree Alex Lugovina. The Eagles return 13 letter winners and welcome 12 newcomers.
