Dollar Dog Night - $1 Hot Dogs Throughout the Game
George Washington men's basketball looks to continue the unbeaten start to its 100th season on Tuesday night when it hosts Delaware State at the Charles E. Smith Center at 7 p.m.
GW is off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2009 when it won its opening four games of the 2009-10 campaign en route to a postseason appearance in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI). The Colonials were rewarded for their solid start by receiving a vote in the latest Associated Press Top 25 national poll released on Monday. It marks the first time the program received votes in the national rankings since concluding the 2006-07 season with three votes in the final AP poll.
While aiming to remain unbeaten and maintain the buzz around the program entering next week's Wooden Legacy tournament in Orange County, Calif., the Colonials will look for their second victory in three seasons against the visiting Delaware State Hornets. In their last meeting, GW cruised to a 77-59 victory over DSU on New Year's Eve 2012.
The Colonials won their third straight game in come-from-behind fashion on Saturday night, erasing a nine-point 39-30 halftime deficit for an 80-74 victory at Manhattan. GW trailed by as much as 13 in the contest, but graduate student guard Maurice Creek erupted for 24 of his 27 points in the second half to help the Colonials spoil the Jaspers' home opener. Senior forward Isaiah Armwood added 20 points, eight rebounds and three blocks in 37 minutes, and sophomore forward Kevin Larsen contributed his first collegiate double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.
GW was at full strength for the first time this season against Manhattan as sophomore guard/forward Patricio Garino saw his first action of the season after suffering a broken finger during preseason practices. He provided six points, three blocks, two rebounds and a steal in 23 minutes against the Jaspers.
Creek leads the Atlantic 10's top scoring offense (88.0 PPG) at 19.3 points per game, including an average of 23.0 points in the wins over Manhattan and Maine (108-81) last week. Armwood adds 15.0 points per game, ranks fourth in the A-10 at 9.7 rebounds per game and leads the league with 2.7 blocks per game. Sophomore guard Kethan Savage is second in the conference in field goal percentage (78.3%) while averaging 14.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks, and Larsen rounds out GW's quartet of double-digit scorers at 13.7 points per game along with 7.7 rebounds an outing.
Delaware State (1-2) has dropped two straight games against ACC foes after a season-opening 107-48 blowout of NCAA Division III Cairn University (formerly Philadelphia Bible). The Hornets dropped a 68-50 decision at Georgia Tech on Nov. 11, then fell 58-37 at Clemson last Wednesday.
DSU has been stout defensively, allowing just 58.0 points per game and limiting opponents to 39 percent shooting (58-149), including just 9-of-48 behind the arc (19 percent). Coach Greg Jackson returns three starters from a team that finished 15-18 last season and was picked to finish seventh in the MEAC in 2013-14 - guard Tyshawn Bell (9.7 PPG), center Kendall Gray (9.3 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 1.7 BPG) and forward Casey Walker (8.0 PPG, 8.7 RPG).
