Sara Davenport and Brian Franke... FarAway |
Folk-Pop Duo Faraway Opens for Carolina Story at the Hamilton After a Successful Fan-Funded Tour and Album Release
Show on October 23rd
A year ago Sara Davenport and Brian Franke were two solo singer/songwriters in Washington, DC who were looking to do more with their songwriting and performing. Since beginning their collaboration together as FarAway in August of 2012 they have secured performances at some of Washington, DC’s top local area music venues such as Ebenezer’s Coffeehouse, Iota Club and Café, and The Hard Rock Café, where they shared the stage with American Idol stars Phillip Phillips and Haley Reinhart. Along with these performances they have co-written songs, two of which appear on their debut EP ‘Somehow’.
‘Somehow’ is FarAway’s first effort that blends folk and pop with beautiful harmonies. Drawing comparisons to other duos like Jenny & Tyler and The Civil Wars, the three song EP speaks to personal struggles in relationships and finding love. ‘Long Drive Home’ follows the percussive nature of a Lumineers song while ‘Our Sky’ is a fun upbeat number about how opposites attract that throws in a smooth harmonica solo.
The duo recently wrapped up their summer tour which was fully fan funded by an Indiegogo campaign. The tour went to such cities as Richmond, Charlottesville, Nashville, and Austin and included performances on the radio and television. They returned home to play their release show to a packed house at Jammin Java to end their tour in late July.
While they are not playing as FarAway, Franke is an award winning full-time musician not only performing solo but hosting open mics, running a songwriting group, and recording his own material. Davenport works as a music teacher and also teaches private lessons in guitar and voice.
FarAway will be opening for Nashville duo, Carolina Story, October 23rd at 7:30pm at The Hamilton in downtown Washington, DC. To find out more about FarAway’s music and upcoming shows, please visit: www.farawaysongs.com.
