2012 Football Schedule Highlighted by Six Home Games

From our friends at Catholic University Athletics...

CUA Head Football Coach Dave Dunn has announced the 2012 schedule, which includes six home games and five night games. "The 2012 schedule is yet another challenging slate for our team, both in and out of the conference," Dunn said. "We're excited about being home six times this season, including back-to-back night games to start things off."

For the second straight year, CUA will kick its season off vs. the Green Terror of McDaniel.  The opener will take place on Friday, August 31 at 7 p.m. inside Cardinal Stadium as CUA looks for its second straight win over McDaniel. CUA picked up an exciting 39-36 win in Westminster a season ago behind a 459-yard passing performance by Greg Cordivari.

One week later, CUA hosts local rival Gallaudet in another night game. The Cardinals staged a furious rally last season to come back and stun the Bison 45-41 on the road.  The win raised CUA's all-time record vs. Gallaudet to 24-0-2, which includes the first win in school history in 1906.

CUA's first road game will take place on Friday, September 14 at Carnegie Mellon underneath the lights. A missed field goal in the final seconds by the Tartans last season gave CUA its first win in a home night game in school history.

Following its bye week, CUA gets its ODAC schedule underway on September 29 when the Cardinals host defending league champion Hampden-Sydney.

A 7 p.m. matchup at Randolph-Macon will take place on October 5, and one week later, CUA will welcome conference newcomer Shenandoah to town for a nighttime kick-off. The Cardinals defeated the Hornets 16-13 in Virginia in the 2010 season opener.

October 20 sends CUA to Emory & Henry with the Cardinals seeking a third straight win vs. the Wasps. CUA defeated Emory & Henry last season with a touchdown in the final minute.

The annual Homecoming contest will take place on October 27 this year, with ODAC foe Washington & Lee serving as the opponent.

The Cardinals then close out their road schedule with a trip to Guilford on November 3. The last time CUA visited the Quakers, the Cardinals came away with a 23-22 win in North Carolina.

On November 10, CUA closes out its regular season with a home date vs. Bridgewater. That day also marks Senior Day for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals will begin preparations for the 2012 season in mid-August when they report to campus for training camp.
