Anatomy of Lavender Moon Cupcakery

Lavender Moon Cupcakery puts the old in Olde Towne: It's the oldest cupcake speciality shop in town (September 2008.) They still don't have a website, and their space feels as dated as the street it's on (116 S. Royal Street) but outward appearances aside, service is friendly and the icing to die for... What more could you ask for?

Well, for one thing... a better cake. My Butterscotch cupcake was doughy, with little to no flavor (perhaps even a bit overcooked.) It's a shame, because the icing was incredible... impossibly light and not too sweet. It even looked delicious, and tasted only of butterscotch. My bill came to three bucks (tax included) and I got a seat by a window to relax and enjoy. The cashier even put on some nice music, to breathe a bit of much needed life into the place. Not exactly my type of environment, but I can see how some people would like it.

The assortment of cupcakes is creative and wonderful to look at. It's one of those few places, where I'd actually consider buying half a dozen (just to try everything.)

Appearance: B
Atmosphere: D (I like a more modern space, especially when dining in.)
Cake: D- (I actually left some of the cake in the wrapper.)
Icing: A (I didn't leave a single drop of icing however.)
Value: B (Three bucks and no change for a good-sized cupcake. Well done.)
Overall: C+ (I can only imagine that amazing icing over a proper cake.)
