Molloy Blasts UDC 81-60

UDC was done early this afternoon, falling behind by 24 at halftime to ECC rival Molloy before eventually losing 81-60 in front of an announced crowd of 300 at the University Sports Complex. Junior standout Michael Terry led the Firebirds with 18 points, but that was hardly enough to overcome his team's poor shooting and a season-high 22 turnovers. UDC falls to 2-13 overall, with a 1-6 conference record; while Molloy jumps to 10-5 and 6-1 in league play.

UDC continued to play short-handed, dressing only seven. Terry and senior guard Keith Brooks (pictured below) played all 40 minutes, and the Firebirds looked gassed throughout. UDC was also at a significant height disadvantage, getting out-rebounded 40-31. Poor passing and a lack of motion on offense sealed the team's fate in the first half; but you have to feel for them, especially when the UDC "faithful" were stone quiet all afternoon... Nobody claps, even after a made three-pointer. This was especially discouraging when head coach Jeff Ruland's team made a spirited rally in the game's final 10 minutes (UDC actually outscored Molloy 40-37 in the second half.) You simply have to cheer your team on... in victory or defeat.

Keith Brooks (21) scores six points in 40 minutes

UDC returns home on Wednesday the 23rd, when they host Queens College (NY) at 5:00 PM. It's a winnable game, as the Knights (3-12, 3-4 ECC) haven't been much better than UDC this season.
