Women's Volleyball: American 3 Colgate 1

AU soph Juliana Crum (5) slams a winner vs. Colgate

American Tops Colgate in 4-Set Thriller

AU women's volleyball defeated Patriot League rival Colgate in four sets (25-18, 24-26, 25-15, 25-16) at Bender Arena today, before an announced crowd of 209. The Eagles won their fourth straight contest, and improved their record to 19-9, 10-3. Today's win avenged a 3-0 loss to the Raiders last month, and cuts Colgate's conference lead to one with one match remaining (Bucknell, at home tomorrow.)

Kristyna Lindovska and sophomore Juliana Crum paced the Eagles with 15 kills each (.519 & .375 hitting percentages respectively.) Lindovska also led AU with seven blocks (tied with Morgan Hendrix for team-high) while Crum tied for a team-best eight digs (with Jessica Warner.) Kylann Scheidt filled in the blanks, notching a team-high 39 assists to go along with seven digs. Junior Lindsay Young registered a double-double (10 kills, digs) to lead Colgate, in a losing cause.

The outlook for next season continues to brighten, as AU loses just one player (Rebecca Heath) to graduation; but the Eagles still have aspirations for a conference title (a likely rematch with Colgate) and an NCAA tournament bid this year. Tomorrow's 4:00 PM battle with Bucknell (9-19, 3-10) should be a breeze, especially after last month's decisive 3-1 win at Davis Gym. The conference tourney begins a week from tomorrow, with the championship (yes, I'm optimistic!) on Sunday, November 18th. Go Eagles!
