GW Sweeps Fordham, Stays in A-10 Hunt

GW soph Kelsey Newman serves in first set

The George Washington women's volleyball team kept alive their post-season chances with a thrilling, yet convincing 3-0 sweep of A-10 foe Fordham tonight at the Charles E. Smith Center. Senior Lauren Whyte managed a whopping 17 kills on her way to a team-high 19.5 points, leading the lady Colonials to a 25-23. 25-17, 25-20 win.

With the victory, GW pushed their overall record to 10-16; but more importantly improved their conference record to 7-5 (currently tied for 4th in the A-10.) The top six teams advance to the A-10 Championships in Pittsburgh, Pa. on November 16th (through 18th.) The Colonials can advance to the tourney with a win on Sunday (Senior Day!) versus Rhode Island (9-16, 5-7.) The 1:00 PM showdown is also the final home game of a thrilling season. After the game, GW will honor seniors Whyte, Christie Graf and Candace Silva-Martin (who's just 12 digs away from becoming the A-10's all-time career leader in that category.) With 18 digs tonight, it's highly likely that Candace will break the record on Sunday. Can you dig that sucka?
