Anatomy of a Cupcake at Sprinkles

Orange & Cranberry cupcake at Sprinkles

I've never been a fan of Georgetown in general... with one exception: Sprinkles Cupcakes. Ever since March of last year, this tiny shop at 3015 M Street, NW has renewed my faith in the upscale neighborhood. Don't ask me how they do it; but Sprinkles packs more customer service punch than any other business in town. Oh yeah, they sell delicious cupcakes too.

One of November's special flavors, Sprinkles' Orange & Cranberry cupcake is truly something to behold. Orange cake filled with tasty cranberries and covered in white chocolate cream cheese frosting... What's not to like? There's a hint of orange (I wished for more) but the cranberries add texture and zip without sacrificing any of the cupcake's airiness (this is an incredibly light cupcake.) The icing is... decadent. It takes seconds to devour. Best of all, the employees genuinely want you to share your opinion afterwards. They must be in on the secret... Sprinkles makes some of the best cupcakes I've ever tasted.
