Anatomy of a Cupcake at Georgetown Scoops

Georgetown Scoops' Red Velvet cupcake

I can't tell you how many times I've walked past Georgetown Scoops at 2818 Pennsylvania Ave., NW in Georgetown... only to stop in my tracks, and gaze upon the beautifully-plated assortment of cupcakes in the window. Well, looks aren't everything; but it was enough to draw me in this afternoon, to sample one of their Red Velvet cupcakes.

First things first: Georgetown Scoops is an ice cream shop that also happens to sell cupcakes. It's a tiny space with one worker, who seemed less than thrilled to help me (I couldn't even tell you if he spoke English... he never uttered a single word.) There were only two cupcake choices, and I opted for the classic red velvet (not one of my favorites.) Fairly priced at $2.99 ($3.29 with tax) I ate mine there (and quickly.)

It had nice frosting with a tiny chocolate kiss nestled on top. The cake was fresh but heavy. I'm not sure what red velvet is supposed to taste like; but if it's nothing, then Georgetown Scoop got it right. I can barely remember it, and it was just two hours ago when I ate it.) Don't let your curiosity get the better of you... Admire the window, and keep walking (towards Sprinkles.)
