Anatomy of a Cupcake at Crumbs

Crumbs' Apple Caramel cupcake

There are cupcakes, and then there are cupcakes. Big doesn't always mean better, but when it comes to Crumbs' cupcakes... it does. Walking into Crumbs at 1107 19th Street is akin to a chocoholic stolling into Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. Spacious and spotless, this location gets better and better the closer you get to the display case.

At $3.95 per cake, Crumbs can appear expensive... but look at what you get for your money. These cupcakes can literally feed two people (I had trouble finishing my Apple Caramel cupcake solo.) Choosing can be difficult, especially when given the task of deciding between milkshakes and mudslides. I opted for the aforementioned Apple Caramel... with mouth-watering results.

Individual cakes are packaged in clear, slotted containers: The slots are especially helpful, considering how big the cakes are. Looks-wise, the Apple Caramel isn't all that pretty; but taste is a whole other story. The cake tastes of pure apple, nice and moist. The icing is plentiful, and the caramel adds another layer to the already impressive flavor profile. Bonus points for Crumbs' personalized cupcake liners. If big is your thing, Crumbs is your place.
