The 12th annual Library of Congress National Book Festival returns to the National Mall on September 22nd, allowing book lovers a chance to meet some of their favorite authors, poets and illustrators... for free!

The 2-day event (September 22-23) will be held on the National Mall between 9th and 14th Streets on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday, Sept. 23 from noon to 5:30 p.m., rain or shine. Noted authors such as Robert Caro, Michael Connelly, Patricia Cornwell, Walter Isaacson and Marilynne Robinson will be in attendance, as will four-time Grammy Award nominee Jewel (who will be signing copies of her new book, "That's What I Do." Unfortunately, previously announced Philip Roth will not be able to attend this year's festival.  Click here for a full list of participants.

Lines form early, so plan accordingly. The limit of books signed is at each author's discretion.

As always, the best way to get to the National Mall is via Metro with stops at Archives/Navy Memorial and L'Enfant Plaza on the Green and Yellow lines as well as Federal Center SW and Smithsonian on the Blue and Orange lines.
