Tully Movie Review

Charlize Theron stars in Tully

You Only Live Twice

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: A new comedy from Academy Award-nominated director Jason Reitman ("Up in the Air") and Academy Award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody ("Juno.") Marlo (Academy Award winner Charlize Theron), a mother of three including a newborn, is gifted a night nanny by her brother (Mark Duplass.) Hesitant to the extravagance at first, Marlo comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising, and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully (Mackenzie Davis.)

Kudos to Theron for "letting it all hang out" in Tully, an all-access pass to the horrors of marriage and motherhood. Theron's Marlo is in desperate need of a "game changer," and discovers Tully, a "book of facts for unpopular fourth graders," who provides advice, babysitting and (most importantly) a few hours of sleep each night, to help Marlo get her life back in order. Reitman's movie is equal parts brutal, earnest and honest, and Theron's endearing performance is nothing short of spectacular; but be warned, it's almost guaranteed to stop you from having a baby (or two, or three.)

Grade: B
