Baywatch Movie Review

Ilfenesh Hadera, Alexandra Daddario & Kelly Rohrbach (r) star in Baywatch

Ready for Duty

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Baywatch follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Zac Efron.) Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay. Directed by Seth Gordon.

Efron declares, "We are Baywatch. We save lives." They also elicit plenty of laughs and tons of charm. Johnson's terrific as a "bigger, browner Batman," as is Jon Bass and (the new love of my life) Kelly Rohrbach. They're so good in fact, they make a relatively bad movie very watchable. It took four guys to write it, but the story forces the action away from the beach, which makes no sense at all. Baywatch is at its best in slow motion, on the beach, in "lifeguard pursuit." Runs long (119 minutes) but chock-full of eye candy and raunchy humor.

Grade: B-
