Self/less Movie Review

Ryan Reynolds pulls "double duty" in Self/less

Who's Damian?

IMDb Plot: An extremely wealthy man (Ben Kingsley) dying from cancer, undergoes a radical medical procedure that transfers his consciousness into the body of a healthy young man (Ryan Reynolds.) But all is not as it seems when he starts to uncover the mystery of the body's origin and the organization that will kill to protect its cause. Directed by Tarsem Singh.

Reynolds warns, "What I'm about to tell you, doesn't sound very reasonable." It's true: Self/less defies common sense (not to mention the laws of science) but does so in an entertaining manner. Kingsley's great early on (before trading bodies) spending $250 million for "the very best of the human experience." Unfortunately, Damian 2.0 (Reynolds) doesn't get to have fun for very long, inexplicably transforming into Sherlock Holmes as Singh takes the movie off-course with mindless, shoot-'em-up action. Thankfully, solid acting (Kingsley, Matthew Goode) and Reynolds' boyish charm gets it back on course, before any real damage is done.
