2015 Smithsonian Folklife Festival - Day 1

Los Wembler's de Iquitos at La Juerga Stage

One year shy of its 50th anniversary, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival decided to shift gears... narrowing its focus to just one country (Peru.) After a star-studded Opening Ceremony at the National Museum of the American Indian's Rasmuson Theater, the Festival kicked off in earnest just after noon today: Check out our photo recap; and make sure to head down to the National Mall, to experience it for yourself. The Festival is set to run through Sunday, July 5th with a two-day break in between (June 29-30.) Click here to find out more; and don't forget... it's all FREE of charge (except for food, of course.)
