The Mind of Mark DeFriest Movie Review

Time for a Change

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: When a legendary escape artist comes up for parole after more than 30 years behind bars, a chance for freedom must be weighed against his infamous past.

According to his wife, Mark DeFriest "recognizes abuse, and fights back against it." The Houdini of Florida is a polarizing figure, no doubt about it. So much so, even I'm at a loss as how to proceed. Filmmaker Gabriel London shares his extraordinary story in The Mind of Mark DeFriest, a powerful documentary that's somehow entertaining, yet heartbreaking. DeFriest's lawyer says it best, "Mark has put himself in as deep a hole as you can get." DeFriest is quite likable; but his track record is (sadly) undeniable. Regardless, you simply must see it. Makes a compelling argument for Prison reform.
