Whole Food's Hearth-Fired Slice

Pepperoni pizza at Whole Foods Market

The last thing I had in mind while shopping for Christmas dinner at Whole Foods Market earlier today was pizza... hot pizza. Yet, that's exactly what I was able to treat myself to. Whole Foods does pizza... and it's darn tootin' good.

Whole Foods' deli service is without par; but I've never taken the time to try one of their fresh-prepared pizzas. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I snapped up two slices of pepperoni for $6 (single slices are $3.49, 2/$6) which they carefully packaged for takeaway. After unpacking my groceries, I was amazed to discover my pizza still warm (almost an hour later.) Three cheers for insulation! While I'm at it: Three more cheers for the customer service at the Tenleytown branch... easily the best franchise in the area.

The pizza was a bit on the greasy side, but absolutely delicious. The crust was delectable, no doubt a product of the hearth-fired grill it's prepared in. Pepperoni was top notch, and the cheese/sauce sufficiently tasty. I can't wait to try one of their many different topping selections next time around.

Atmosphere: B (It's a grocery store, but you're surrounded by a wondrous assortment of food. What could be better than that?)
Service: B+ (The deli attendant couldn't have been nicer.)
Crust: B (I almost gave it a B+)
Toppings: B (Pepperoni is far from exciting, but it's really good.)
Taste: B
Overall: B (I dare anyone to guess this pizza came from a grocer.)
