From our friends at the The Hay-Adams Hotel...

At the iconic Hay-Adams, happy hour reaches new heights as Off the Record climbs to the lobby level for an August “pop-up” experience of elevated elegance. The Hay-Adams Room will be transformed into the hotel’s famous watering hole oasis from Monday, August 7th to Monday, September 4th. One will find Off the Record’s collectable political coasters, stately furnishings and classic cocktails served at the new bar, just off the lobby entrance. Guests can also enjoy lunch and dinner under the portraits of John Hay and Henry Adams in this impressive, paneled gathering place. This pop-up is happening in what was The Hay-Adam’s original dining room and popular bar during the heyday period from the 1940s to the 1960s.

Its sheltered young women take in an injured enemy soldier (Colin Farrell.) Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle 2017 - Day 2 Photo Recap

Johnsonville's Big Taste Grill

It never hurts to have Mother Nature on your side. The 25th annual Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle wrapped up another amazing weekend of food, games and music, sans umbrellas. Between the VIP Hospitality Area, the Taste of Giant Sampling Pavilion and the dozens (upon dozens) of vendors, it didn't take long to get stuffed with barbecue, chips and drinks. Perhaps next year, we can celebrate an entire week? Just a thought. Until then, let's take a look back at today's merriment.

Slate Wine Bar + Bistro Food Review II

Super Filet Mignon Cheeseburger at Slate Wine Bar + Bistro

Leave it to me to visit Slate Wine Bar + Bistro twice, and not have a glass (or two) of wine. As a rule, I don't drink alcohol during daytime (apologies to Chef Danny Lledó) but I do eat hamburgers. Lucky for me, Chef Danny makes amazing burgers, including their pièce de résistance... the Super Filet Mignon Cheeseburger. What does a $20 burger (with fries) taste like? H-E-A-V-E-N on a plate.

Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle 2017 - Day 1 Photo Recap

The Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle celebrated its 25th anniversary today with a new location (further down Pennsylvania Avenue, towards the U.S. Capitol) lots of sunshine (I have the sunburn to prove it) and possible record-breaking crowds. In between, the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, Taste of Giant Sampling Pavilion and tons of yummy barbecue. Missed it? Don't despair. The Battle resumes tomorrow, 11 AM to 7 PM (click here to purchase tickets online.)
