Ocean's 8 Movie Review

Sandra Bullock & Cate Blanchett (r) star in Ocean's 8

Barbie... In a Bad Way

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Upon her release from prison, Debbie (Sandra Bullock) the estranged sister of legendary conman Danny Ocean, puts together a team of unstoppable crooks to pull of the heist of the century. Their goal is New York City's annual Met Gala, and a necklace worth in excess of 150 million dollars. Directed by Gary Ross.

Originality. Merriam-Webster defines it as, "freshness of aspect, design, or style." Ocean's 8 has none of it... unless you count an 8x10 headshot of George Clooney, and a bevy of B-list celebrities (Katie Holmes, Marlo Thomas.) Bullock's OK (particularly early on) but the rest of her team barely registers a heartbeat, including Cate Blanchett (as the female Rusty) and Rihanna, who delivers all her lines in monotone. Even the heist itself is boring, as there's no nemesis (a la Andy GarcĂa, Al Pacino) to speak of, yet alone a moment of distraction or tension to make things interesting. No thanks.

Grade: D-
