Solo: A Star Wars Story Movie Review

Alden Ehrenreich stars in Solo: A Star Wars Story

Well-Negotiated

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo) and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga's most unlikely heroes. Co-stars Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Paul Bettany. Directed by Ron Howard.

It took 40 years, but Solo: A Star Wars Story comes this close to matching the magic of the original. All that's missing is a good villain (preferably with a light sabre) but the second anthology film has everything else... action, compelling characters, humor, romance and several surprises. The former is especially awesome, featuring a daring/innovative train heist and a thrilling escape aboard the Millennium Falcon. In between, prepare to be blown away by Ehrenreich & Glover and not one, not two but three juicy female performances (Clarke, Newton & Waller-Bridge.) I can't wait for a sequel.

Grade: B
