The Disaster Artist Movie Review

Dave Franco & James Franco (r) star in The Disaster Artist

Do It!

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: The real life story of writer/director Tommy Wiseau, the man behind what is often referred to as "The Citizen Kane of Bad Movies," The Room, is brought to life, chronicling the odd film's troubled development and eventual cult success. Directed by (and starring) James Franco.

It's no Ed Wood; but you have to admire James Franco's moxie in The Disaster Artist, a tribute film (to Wiseau's infamous The Room) that's equal parts flattering and insulting... with a few laughs in between. Unfortunately, once you accept the premise (crazy guy with lots of money makes unintentionally bad movie) there isn't much left, outside of an endless slew of incoherent cameos (Zac Efron, Melanie Griffith, Sharon Stone and many, many more) and an eccentric, spot-on turn by the elder Franco. Borderline great if you're a fan of The Room, and pretty good for the rest of us.

Grade: C+
