Thank You for Your Service Movie Review

Hayley Bennett & Miles Teller (r) star in Thank You for Your Service

Then What Happens...

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Thank You for Your Service follows a group of U.S. soldiers returning from Iraq, who struggle to integrate back into family and civilian life, while living with the memory of a war that threatens to destroy them long after they've left the battlefield. Directed by Jason Hall.

It's not the kind of movie you'll necessarily enjoy, or want to see again; but make no mistake, Thank You for Your Service is one of this year's best (and most gut-wrenching) films. Hall's directorial debut looks familiar (The Lucky Ones, Stop-Loss) but rings truer, capitalizing on a trio of superb performances, led by Hayley Bennett, Miles Teller and relative newcomer Beulah Koale. Bullets and bombs give way to haunting memories and other obstacles, including a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs that (I'm sure you'll agree) desperately needs more funding. Emotional, enlightening and not the least bit jingoistic or sappy.

Grade: A-
