The House Movie Review

Will Ferrell & Amy Poehler (r) star in The House

Stranger Danger

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Andrew J. Cohen directs this romp about a mother and father (Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler) who blow their daughter's college fund and start an illegal casino in their basement to recoup the losses.

Ferrell asks, "What if we were the house?" After all, "the house always wins," and Alex's (Ryan Simpkins) parents need to get their hands on $250,000 pronto (in a month) to pay her college tuition. Cohen's The House is good for a few laughs, and is painlessly short (a mere 88 minutes long) but odds are, you've seen this tale before (and done better, to boot.) Ferrell & Poehler are very likable, but edgy? Not anymore, unless you count Poehler taking a piss on the front lawn, while her husband (literally) cheers her on. Harmless fun for the easily entertained.
