Alien: Covenant Movie Review

Katherine Waterston stars in Alien: Covenant

Crash and Burn

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with Alien: Covenant, a new chapter in his groundbreaking Alien franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

Alien: Covenant looks the part, but I expected a lot more from Scott. Prometheus was promising (and innovative) but Covenant is little more than a glossy rehash of previous chapters. The story is ill-conceived, and the casting... downright abysmal. Katherine Waterston is no Sigourney Weaver (not even close) and whose idea was it to bring a clueless, cowardly crew (not to mention cigarettes) to a new planet? Would you put Danny McBride in charge of a gazillion dollar spaceship? Of course not. Lots of bad decisions, boring chatter and aliens popping out of dumb people's bodies... and almost nothing else.

Grade: D
