Get Out Movie Review

Daniel Kaluuya stars in Get Out

Field of Play

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams) have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy (Catherine Keener) and Dean (Bradley Whitford.) At first, Chris reads the family's overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter's interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined. Directed by Jordan Peele.

Chris comments, "I've heard stories." Probably so, but none half as good as Peele's Get Out. The MADtv alum's directorial debut is a bonafide smash... equal parts satirical, scary and smart. It's also one of the boldest, most perceptive cinematic examinations of race in ages. Toss in lots of well-timed humor (particularly Lil Rel Howery) and this could be one of the year's best films. Credit Peele for most of it (he wrote as well) and Kaluuya, who delights at every turn, alongside a superb supporting cast. This is what happens, when you have talent and take chances. Encore! Encore!
