Keeping Up with the Joneses Movie Review

Isla Fisher & Zack Galifianakis (r) star in Keeping Up with the Joneses

What Ales Ya?

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: A suburban couple (Isla Fisher & Zack Galifianakis) becomes embroiled in an international espionage plot when they discover that their seemingly perfect new neighbors (Gal Gadot & Jon Hamm) are government spies. Directed by Greg Mottola.

Patton Oswalt (a curious ridiculous choice for a villain) asks, "What is this, amateur night?" Keeping Up with the Joneses is amateur at best... a film that looks good on paper, but stinks in execution. Galifianakis is awful, badly miscast as a clumsy/nerdy suburbanite who spits out lines like, "Never judge a woman by her spike rack," and "When people have to poop, they get embarrassed." Blame Michael "I may not have to moisturize, but I have feelings" LeSieur for piss-poor writing; but outside of Gadot & Hamm, there isn't a single laugh (or positive) to be had. Pass.

Grade: D-
