Bad Moms Movie Review

Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell & Kathryn Hahn (r) star in Bad Moms

To Bad Moms!

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: In this new comedy from the grateful husbands and devoted fathers who wrote The Hangover, Amy (Mila Kunis) has a seemingly perfect life - a great marriage, over-achieving kids, a beautiful home and career. However, she's over-worked, over-committed and exhausted to the point that she's about to snap. Fed up, she joins forces with two other over-stressed moms on a quest to liberate themselves from conventional responsibilities - going on a wild, un-mom-like binge of long overdue freedom, fun and self-indulgence - putting them on a collision course with PTA Queen Bee Gwendolyn (Christina Applegate) and her clique of devoted perfect moms. Directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.

Girls just want to have fun; so it's hard to bash Bad Moms, despite the fact that it's a pretty bad movie. Kathryn Hahn's terrific ("Nice to meet you Ike Turner," "Are you trying to get laid or adopted?") but she's all alone on an otherwise comedy-free island. Blame Lucas & Moore for a painfully formulaic story, and the questionable casting of Kunis as a comedic lead actor... who isn't very funny. Kunis confesses, "I'm doing the best I can," but truth be told, she's there for name recognition only. Good for a girls' night out, but that's about it.

Grade: D+
