Independence Day: Resurgence Movie Review

Jeff Goldblum & Charlotte Gainsbourg (r) star in Independence Day: Resurgence

What Goes Up, Must Go Down

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction Directed by Roland Emmerich. Stars Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward, Brent Spiner and William Fichtner.

"Let's hope to God, we did the right thing." Sorry Madame President, you didn't. Independence Day: Resurgence is the kind of movie that gives movies a bad name. The acting's atrocious (Usher & Ward are especially bad, Hemsworth too) and the special effects... expensive and fake. Even worse, there isn't an ounce of originality (keep in mind, Emmerich & co. had 20 years to prepare) or plausibility. Is it any wonder Will Smith passed? Spiner adds some much needed humor; but other than that, we're left with a myriad of pseudo-stars sleepwalking through a $165 million borefest. Why even bother?
