First Annual SerbFest DC Opens Tomorrow


From our friends at SerbFest DC...

The first Annual SerbFest DC is presented by Saint Luke Serbian Orthodox Church located at 10660 River Road, Potomac, MD, 20854 and takes place on Friday, October 2, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

In its inaugural year, SerbFest DC aims to fill the void in the greater Baltimore/DC area for authentic Serbian food and culture. Saint Luke Serbian Orthodox Church is the epicenter for Serbian culture in DC and is proud to share ethnic cuisine, customs, and culture with the Capital!


The festivities begin on Friday, October 2 with Serbian food, drinks and music and continue on Saturday, October 3, with food, drinks, entertainment including traditional Serbian dance and music performances, boutiques selling traditional Orthodox religious items and Serbian gifts, and family-friendly activities.

Menu:
Traditional Serbian dishes:
Burek (baked meat pie in phyllo dough)
Zeljanica (baked spinach & cheese in phyllo dough)
Gibanica (baked cheese in phyllo dough)
Sarma (meat & rice mixture wrapped in a pickled cabbage leaf)
Kupus salata (cabbage salad)
Šopska salata (tomato, cucumber & onion salad with feta cheese)
Krompir salata (potato salad)

From the Grill:
Ćevapčići (grilled skinless ground meat sausages)
Jagnjetina (spit-roasted lamb)
Svinjetina (spit-roasted pig)
Raznjuci (grilled meat on skewers)

Desserts:
Krofna (deep-fried donut)
Palačinka (crepe)
Serbian nut rolls, poppy seed rolls & kolači (cookies)

Serbian beers: Jelen, LAV, Nikšićko and BiP beers from Serbia & the former Yugoslavia.

Serbian liquor: Rakija, which is Serbian brandy made from fruit. The most famous is Slivovitz, which is made from plums.

Entertainment Line-Up for Saturday, October 3:
• 12:00 - 4:00 PM: 'Bezimeni' Tamburitza Orchestra from Pittsburgh, PA
• 4:00 - 5:00 PM: Serbian Folklore Dance Group from Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada
• 5:00 - 9:00 PM: DJ Spaz from Chicago, IL
