Photo Recap: Citi Open 2015 - Day 8

Kei Nishikori advances to tomorrow's finals

Super Saturday at the Citi Open went off without a hitch raindrop today, as #2 seed Kei Nishikori rallied to defeat #3 Marin Čilić 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 before a packed house on Stadium Court. The 5th ranked player in the world moves on to tomorrow's Men's Singles finals, where he'll play the winner of tonight's John Isner/Steve Johnson matchup. Čilić broke back to tie it at 4-4 in the third set; but Nishikori returned the favor to take the lead at 5-4, then served out to win the match in just over two hours.

The Bryan Brothers were next, sweeping past #3 seeds Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea 6-3, 6-4 in under an hour. With the win, Bob & Mike Bryan advanced to tomorrow's Men's Doubles finals vs. #2 seeds Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo, 6-0, 6-4 winners over Marcin Matkowski and Nenad Zimonjić. As if #1 vs. #2 wasn't enough drama: It's also a rematch of the 2015 French Open finals, won by Dodig & Melo. Insert clever revenge reference here.

Marin Čilić lost to Kei Nishikori 6-3, 1-6, 4-6

In other results, women's singles #1 seed Ekaterina Makarova retired (right lower leg) after dropping the second set to Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-3. Makarova won the first set 6-4; but Pavlyuchenkova returns to the Citi Open finals for the second time in her career (she lost 6-1, 6-1 to Magdaléna Rybáriková in the 2012 championship.) She'll face the winner of tonight's contest between #2 Samantha Stosur and Sloane Stephens. Meanwhile, #4 seeds Kristina Mladenović & Belinda Bencic won the Women's Doubles title with a 7-5, 7-6 (7) victory over #3 Lara Arruabarrena and Andreja Klepač.
