Trouble in Paradise
Rotten Tomatoes Plot: An intense international thriller, No Escape centers on an American businessman (Owen Wilson) as he and his family settle into their new home in Southeast Asia. Suddenly finding themselves in the middle of a violent political uprising, they must frantically look for a safe escape as rebels mercilessly attack the city. Directed by John Erick Dowdle and written together with his brother Drew, No Escape stars Wilson, Lake Bell and Pierce Brosnan.
Planning a trip to Cambodia? Thailand? No Escape might make you think twice. Granted, the plot closer resembles a Chuck Norris movie; but there's no end to the drama and tension, especially the first hour (which is sensational.) Wilson & Bell are compelling as normal American parents in a literal war zone; and Brosnan adds a colorful mix of humor and James Bond-ism. Beware: There's also loads of gratuitous violence, which is bound to tick off the Asian tourism industry... but all's fair in love, war (and Hollywood) right? Me? I'm just happy to see something original for a change.
