American Ultra Movie Review

Jesse Eisenberg & Kristen Stewart (r) star in American Ultra

Crazy Is, as Crazy Does

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: American Ultra is a fast-paced action comedy about Mike (Jesse Eisenberg), a seemingly hapless and unmotivated stoner whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend, Phoebe (Kristen Stewart), is suddenly turned upside down. Unbeknownst to him, Mike is actually a highly trained, lethal sleeper agent. In the blink of an eye, as his secret past comes back to haunt him, Mike is thrust into the middle of a deadly government operation and is forced to summon his inner action-hero in order to survive.

Eisenberg asks, "Where do you want to begin?" How about the end? That way you wouldn't have to sit suffer through this grungy Bourne Identity/Wanted wannabe. Seriously, how much senseless violence can one critic take? Eisenberg & Stewart star as "the perfect fucked-up couple," but I found them boring and unattractive, even after their epiphany. Outside of John Leguizamo (fantasy football, monkey virus) I can't say a good thing about it. Connie Britton? Topher Grace? Shame on casting. Evidently Nima Nourizadeh can't direct, and Max Landis can't write (well.) Some movies should never be made: This is one example.
