From our friends at Macon Bistro & Larder...

Macon Bistro & Larder, located at 5520 Connecticut Ave., NW, 20015, will debut lunch service beginning Tuesday, July 7th. Guests can look forward to classic dishes with a Southern twist created by Executive Chef Daniel Singhofen and Chef de Cuisine Jenna Pool. The intimate 50-seat restaurant offers a 20-seat bar, which overlooks the open kitchen with an additional 25 seats in the French-inspired Arcade. An outdoor patio offers al fresco dining for up to 32 guests. The new seasonally sourced lunch menu will be served Tuesday through Friday, from 11:30 AM to 2 PM.

Standout starters include a Classic Caesar with romaine, anchovies, croutons and parmesan; Salad Niçoise with local greens, olives, onions, eggs and house-preserved tuna; Killed Salad with bacon vinaigrette, hard-boiled egg, pickled onion and croutons; Fried Green Tomatoes with country-sausage gravy, cheddar, pickled chilies and fried egg, as well as Chilled Cucumber Soup with toasted almonds, spicebush vinegar and herbs. Main courses include City Ham Sandwich with cheddar, honey mustard and country bread; Corned Beef on rye bread served with house-made coleslaw; Macon Burger on a house-made bun with aged cheddar and fingerling potatoes; Chicken Salad with lettuce and grapes, served on a baguette; Bistro Fillet with sauce béarnaise and fingerling potatoes, as well as a Market Fish which will change daily.

Guests can add to the main course with side dishes that include Essie’s Biscuits served with honey butter and pepper jelly; Collard Greens simmered in white wine and topped with bacon and garlic; Hoppin’ John with sea island red peas and Carolina gold rice; Spicy Kale with crispy grits, shallots, garlic and chilies; Vegetables a la Grecque made with spring vegetables and extra virgin olive oil, as well as ‘Mac’-on Cheese with cheddar mornay and panko breadcrumbs.

Macon Bistro & Larder’s desserts are created by newly appointed Pastry Chef Jameela Hassan and are just as enticing. They include Smoked Pecan Pie with vanilla ice cream and local sorghum; Chocolate Truffle Cheesecake with mint syrup and fresh thyme, and Almond Custard with rhubarb compote, almond crunch and fennel merengue.

For a perfect pairing, guests can select from the all-French wine list, enjoy a craft beer from local and Southern breweries, or opt for a craft cocktail from a list that crisscrosses the Atlantic, with riffs on classic European and American libations. Standouts include the Vespertine with cucumber vodka, pickled ramps, aromatized wine and citrus bitters; We Got the Beat with blended scotch, Dubonnet, lemon and beet syrup; the Pama Diablo with reposado tequila, pomegranate liqueur, lime and ginger beer, as well as the Bon Vivant with gin, Angostura bitters, Crème Yvette and sparkling wine.
