Inside Out Movie Review

The Foot is Down

IMDb Plot: After young Riley is uprooted from her Midwest life and moved to San Francisco, her emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness - conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

First comes Joy, then comes sadness (and dozens of other cute characters) in Disney's Inside Out, a surprisingly clever and funny movie that's sure to delight adults and kids alike. To keep me awake (at a cartoon) for 94 minutes is a near-miracle; but truth be told, I had a blast for most of it. Amy Poehler's Joy juggles the orbs, ensuring sunny days for Riley. Anger (Lewis Black) keeps things interesting, "Congratulations San Francisco, you ruined pizza," and Phyllis Smith makes Sadness seem almost cool. Lessons abound (teen angst, etc.) without coming across as overbearing. Smart and entertaining: Bravo!
