Aloha Movie Review

Bradley Cooper & Emma Stone (r) star in Aloha

Only in Hawaii

IMDb Plot: A celebrated military contractor (Bradley Cooper) returns to the site of his greatest career triumphs and re-connects with a long-ago love (Rachel McAdams) while unexpectedly falling for the hard-charging Air Force watchdog (Emma Stone) assigned to him. (Directed by Cameron Crowe.)

Aloha starts off with good intentions; but it doesn't take long to drown in a sea of syrupy sweet sentiment and enough music to put a Broadway musical to shame. It also smacks of Cowboys & Indians, minus General Custer and the peace pipe. You have to wonder if Crowe understands Hawaii at all: What, no luau? All this, on top of lines like, "I don't want to wind up a decal on your laptop." Ugh. Cooper's fun to watch (as is Bill Murray) but this movie makes no sense whatsoever. Show me the money Hawaii, because this isn't it.

Grade: D
