Furious 7 Movie Review

Paul Walker and Vin Diesel (r) star in Furious 7

No More Funerals

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Continuing the global exploits in the unstoppable franchise built on speed, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of Furious 7. James Wan directs this chapter of the hugely successful series that also welcomes back favorites Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black. They are joined by international action stars new to the franchise including Jason Statham, Djimon Hounsou, Tony Jaa, Ronda Rousey and Kurt Russell.

"They say the open road helps you think," and I think Furious 7 has finally jumped the shark. There are too many characters, and some of them are starting to show their age. It's also about 30 minutes too long, and very busy/loud (sensory overload.) That said, it has tons of creative action, hot chicks (Nathalie Emmanuel) catch phrases and preposterous stunts... exactly what the doctor/fans ordered. Style over substance, and not enough airbags/plausibility. It has its moments (The Rock's "Woman, I am the calvary" leaps to mind) and a sentimental finish; but perhaps enough is enough.

Grade: B-
